Copper Chills

Copper Chills are precision-machined inserts manufactured from high-conductivity copper alloy and embedded within the die to produce controlled, rapid local solidification in thick sections or isolated hot spots that cannot be reached by conventional water cooling circuits. The thermal conductivity of copper (approximately 390 W/m·K) is far higher than that of the surrounding H-13 tool steel (approximately 28 W/m·K), enabling it to act as a thermal sink that accelerates local solidification. Vyankatesh Engineering's Copper Chills are manufactured to precise dimensions for accurate seating within the die, and are regularly used to eliminate localized shrinkage porosity in thick-walled aluminum castings.
